19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial championship after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first professional title, took control to create a final set.

Moutet rescued four initial chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
