Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
