Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking official stated the attack rendered him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
